If you write novels, screenplays, or anything over 10,000 words, Scrivener is the single best investment you can make. The learning curve is real, but the payoff is enormous.

I resisted Scrivener for years. Word worked fine, I told myself. Then I hit 60,000 words on a novel and realized I had no idea where anything was. Scrivener solved that problem immediately.
The core concept — treating your manuscript as a collection of scenes and chapters you can rearrange freely — sounds simple but changes everything about how you work. Moving a chapter from act two to act three is a drag-and-drop operation, not a cut-and-paste nightmare.
The compile feature alone is worth the price. Whether you're formatting for Kindle, submitting to an agent, or printing a manuscript, Scrivener handles it. The templates are solid and the custom compile settings are deep enough for any requirement.
The learning curve is the honest downside. Scrivener can do so much that new users often feel overwhelmed. My advice: learn one feature at a time. Start with the binder and basic writing. Add the corkboard when you're comfortable. Don't try to master everything at once.
